“Animation” is Booth Junkie’s name for what the legacy app called “Flash” – a full-screen video or animation slot that can appear at several points in a session. It isn’t a literal camera flash effect, just a video you provide.
What it actually does
An Animation step plays whatever video file you’ve assigned to it, optionally with a one-shot sound effect alongside it, and optionally your logo overlaid at a position you choose here in Screen Layout. If you want it to look like a flash of light, that’s down to the video you use – there’s no built-in flash effect.
How guests move past it
Each Animation step is set to one of two modes:
- Touch – the video loops until the guest taps the screen, then it advances. This is what’s normally used for the idle screen before Selection (“touch me to take a selfie”).
- Timed – the video plays once and the step advances automatically the moment it finishes – there’s nothing for the guest to tap.
Where it shows up
Animation isn’t a single fixed screen – it’s a reusable step you can drop in anywhere in a workflow. Out of the box it’s used three times: once as the idle/attract screen before Selection, and once more on each side of the Photo step (a short Timed clip right before capture, another right after).

Adding one to your own workflow
Go to Admin Panel -> Workflows, pick the workflow you want, find a spare row, and set its Type to Animation. Choose your video file, pick Touch or Timed, and add a sound effect if you want one.
