What happens at the booth
A guest finishes their photos, taps their phone number into the keypad on the booth screen, and steps away. The photo lands in their WhatsApp, usually before they are back with the rest of the room.
That is the whole of it from their side. There is no app to download, no email address to spell out over a loud room, and no verification code to receive and type back somewhere before the picture is released. They give a number; they get the photo.
It matters more than it sounds. The moment a guest has to install something or wait for a code, most of them stop — and the photos that were meant to travel round a room all evening never leave the booth.
How the photo actually gets there
Booth Junkie sends the image itself, from the booth, over the official WhatsApp Business Platform. It does that under an agreement Booth Junkie has held with Meta from the very beginning, permitting it to send messages on its customers’ behalf.
This is worth being precise about, because WhatsApp appears on a lot of feature lists and it does not always mean the same thing. Delivery generally arrives one of three ways: the guest is handed a share sheet or a QR code and sends the photo themselves from their own WhatsApp; a third-party gateway sits in the middle; or the photo is held until a code has been exchanged. Booth Junkie does none of those — the message originates from the booth and goes down the official channel, which is what removes every extra step from the guest’s side.
It is a licensing position rather than a clever trick, and it is the reason the experience is as short as it is.
Venues with no wifi
This is the part operators tend not to expect.
WhatsApp delivery does not need a connection at the event. Every share — WhatsApp, SMS, email, the online gallery, FTP and the cloud drives — goes into the Upload Queue rather than being sent on the spot. If the booth is online it goes immediately. If it is not, it waits.
So an entire evening can run in a marquee, a basement or a listed building with no signal at all. Put the booth back online the next day and every photo sends itself. Failed sends retry on their own, backing off between attempts, and anything that genuinely could not be delivered is listed with the real reason from the server rather than a generic error — so a number typed wrongly on the night can be corrected and sent again.
Quoting for a venue with no wifi stops being a risk you have to price in.
What it costs to send
Nothing per message. WhatsApp and SMS delivery are both part of Premium, and neither is metered, so a busy stand at a trade show does not turn into a bill at the end of the month.
Every Booth Junkie licence includes twelve months of Premium from the day it is bought. When those twelve months end the software carries on working and the licence stays valid — the delivery features simply pause until Premium is renewed, which can be done whenever it suits rather than on a schedule. The licence itself lasts the lifetime of the machine it is on.
Turning it on
WhatsApp sharing lives in the Sharing tab of the Admin Panel, alongside the other delivery options. The message itself is fixed: WhatsApp messages have to follow strict guidelines set by Meta, so their wording cannot be changed. A consent notice can be shown before anything is sent if you would rather ask first.
The full walkthrough is in the knowledgebase: Setting up WhatsApp sharing.
The other ways photos leave the booth
WhatsApp is rarely the only route an operator wants, and the rest are configured in the same place:
- SMS straight to the phone, sent free under the BoothJunkie name.
- Email, through Booth Junkie or your own SMTP server.
- An online gallery for the whole event, with its own link.
- FTP and cloud drives, for operators who want the files landing somewhere of their own.
All of them share the same Upload Queue, so all of them survive a venue with no signal.
Try it on your own booth
The free trial runs for 30 days with the Premium features switched on, so WhatsApp sending can be tested on your own hardware, at your own venue, before any money changes hands.
