Why strips almost always print in pairs

Photo booths print on dye-sublimation printers, which use fixed media. The usual setup is a 6-inch roll: the printer lays down a 6×4 image and cuts the paper at four inches.

The constraint is the ribbon. A dye-sub ribbon carries fixed CMYK panels sized for a 6×4 print, and a panel cannot be part-used or saved for later. Printing a single 2×6 strip consumes an entire panel and wastes most of it — and because ribbons are rated by print count rather than by area, a 2×6 costs exactly as much in consumables as a full 6×4.

So operators running strips almost always have the software print two identical strips side by side on a single 6×4 panel, then cut at the two-inch mark twice. One panel, two strips, nothing wasted.

What happens to the second copy is the operator's choice. Most hand both to the guest. Some keep one back for a physical album given to whoever hired the booth — a common touch at weddings, where the couple receive a keepsake album containing every photo taken during the event.

Specifications

Strip templates are PNG artwork at 2592 × 864 pixels, a 3:1 ratio. Each download includes a template.xml defining every photo window, so the layout works immediately on installation.

Portrait and landscape

Portrait and landscape describe the photographs, not the strip. A portrait strip stacks upright photos down its length; a landscape strip uses wide photos. Both print at 2×6. Choose the one matching how your booth's camera is mounted.

Editing

Every design is editable. Open the PNG in any image editor to add a client's branding, or adjust the photo windows inside Booth Junkie itself — the template editor in v10 is considerably more capable than the one in earlier versions.

Getting them

Strip templates install from the downloads screen in the Booth Junkie app. Downloads are part of Booth Junkie Premium. Every licence is a Lifetime Licence and includes 12 months of Premium, which also covers SMS, WhatsApp and email sending, FTP upload, updates and support. If Premium lapses the software carries on working and the licence stays valid — only the Premium features pause until it is renewed.
